Unwanted Medicines Disposal Service
If you have unused or expired medicines, you can bring them to Loves Farm Pharmacy for safe disposal.
Our unwanted medicines disposal is a free service available to the public. You can drop off any prescription medicines or medicines that you bought over the counter, and they will be disposed of safely.
It is not safe to put unwanted or expired medicine in domestic bins or flush them down toilets for several reasons. The drug may contaminate the environment, including the water supply. Also, domestic bins are not secure, and the drugs could get into the wrong hands.
Likewise, stockpiling drugs—or keeping old and unused medicines—poses health risks. You could accidentally take an expired medication or even take the wrong one. This risk is particularly relevant as you get older.
What happens to unwanted medicine?
A pharmacy cannot reuse any medicine you return.
Some medicines will go back to the pharmaceutical manufacturing company for disposal. Otherwise, the drugs will go to specialized waste management companies.
So please bring your old, unused, or expired medications into the pharmacy and give them over the counter to a member of staff.
Please note that we are unable to accept used needles or syringes. We can advise you on where to dispose of them; please ask a member of the team.
